In my Dutch oven i make chili or spaghetti sauce -- things you would begin by browning ground beef; or when I make gumbo (the roux); or other large soups. My husband does all the crock pot cookery! :) A classic dutch oven recipe is coq au vin -- it is nice for when you are first searing meat and then adding other things. http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/coq_au_vin/
Most recently though we had leftover soup in the dutch oven: leftover beef stew (from the crock pot); chicken broth from the freezer; leftover sausage hash -- plus some celery, a potato, two carrots, and a can of chick peas. IT WAS SO GOOD. :)
