Skinny Jeans to bell bottoms tutorial

<cut>
Step 1 is to take everyone's friend the seam ripper and open the side seam of the jeans up about 14″. Then you cut a triangle of fabric that’s about 1-2 inches taller than that. Mine are about 7″ wide on the bottom edge. I used old shirts and a thin jacket for the fabric, and I planned my cuts so I could leave the bottom seam on the fabric. Don’t try to make the triangle too perfect, it’s going to get smaller later.

Pin the triangle face-to-face with the jeans, lining it up at the hem and not the point, pin and sew up only one side.

Then, starting at the hem again, pin a few inches, then smooth the triangle down and let the fabric edge go wherever it wants to as long as the place where it will meet the jeans is smooth and flat. Pin that entire line, and sew that too. Trim the excess.

Topstitching the entire thing is optional, but you will need to reinforce where the fabrics meet at the hem, and the top point of the slit. If you see here, you can see the gray stitches on the denim.

And that’s it. Easy peasy. If there’s something that isn’t clear, please feel free to ask.
