Piff

Piff is doing better.  Gonna try putting canned kitten food in the syringe for him tomorrow.

Weighed him on the postal scale today, to start an official tally of his progression.  1lb, 8.6 oz.  I know he didn't put on half a pound in one day, so I'm making this his starting weight.

He crosses the room to sit in my lap, uses the litter box (but missed once), and he played with the string on my pants for a few swipes.  All in all, I think he's getting better.  Less snotty today, that's for sure.

AWWW THE LITTLE DARLING.

i have 2 kitties (almost cats) one is black with white on his chest (we call him shia - yeah. like lebeuf or whatever his last name is, and i don't know where my kids picked that name up, but it's cute) and bandit (he's the white one with black spots.

i thought they were both girls.
til yesterday.
when i was petting bandit, and to my utter disgust, a tiny red wet thing began poking out of "her" fur.

my face must have been priceless. i was all huh? what's...that...? OMG! OMFG! EW! OMG!

*gagged*

and i'm a person who's pushed 3 boys out. and i read really gross stuff. and write some pretty questionable things. and watch gross movies.

but that? little tiny red crayon looking thing pokin out of my little bandit's fur?

*gags again*

uh, anyway... LOL. yay @ less snotty kitties!

I have had a similar experience with upper respiratory disease. About six years ago my family got a couple of kittens (twins!), and one of them was really sick. We went a similar route (minimum expense, maximum TLC) on advice from our vet because the tests might not do anything other than make the poor cat miserable; whereas giving him general antibiotics and loving him up would at least make him happy (our vet said that of his other clients who had dealt with this situation the majority had chosen to do the same thing, and the pets usually were the better for it --> hey, if you are syringe feeding/hydrating the little guy he *knows* it's love; I can make my cats do *anything* if I give them water from an eye dropper they love it so much). Not that it means much, but I think you are doing the right thing (Rusty, my sickie, got stronger every day until it was like he was never sick). Piff is a real little beauty.

Yay! Wow--you're my hero for taking care of that little itty bitty puff ball.

YAY PIFF, GO PIFF! It's a good sign if he feels well enough to play.

YAY! I'm so glad the little guy isn't giving up. Hope the canned food works :-)

Eep!

I can imagine the upleasant surprise of discovering your girl-kitten has a penis.

Piff put on 2 oz. overnight and has been eating and drinking regularly all day. he's figured out the canned food and can't seem to get enough now.

Piff is gonna be the most spoiled cat ever. He'd rather be held than eat, so I hold him and feed him at the same time so he'll eat more. He's figured out canned food is good, and has been eating steady all day. His body weight has increased by 2oz in 24 hrs.

Thanks for the story about your kitties. It helps to hear that I'm not being cheap or selfish.

He's teeny-scrawny. My thumb and forefinger wrap loosely around his neck and overlap by half an inch. When I feel the space in that hollow of his belly (like right in front of his hips and below his spine), he's less than an inch thick there. His hips are all boney and I can feel every rib. It's hard to know where to pet him.

He's better today though. Eating canned food like it's going out of style. He's put on 2oz. in the past 24 hrs. A few more days of that and we won't be worried anymore.

It's really good to see him walking and moving more. His balance is really bad, and a friend who came over today says he'll have to get a lot of his muscle tone/mass back. He's skin and bone.

Dude. He put on 2oz in 24 hrs. If he keeps this up for a few days I'll be real happy.

Whose balance doens't suck with a head full of snot! Can't say he's acting any different than I would that congested ie: get cozy, stare blankly, luv, luv, luv the one who brings me soup and tissues, be tired from the effort of having done *something*, get comfy again and space out for a while, get up and bounce off a wall or three trying to get to the bathroom...

He ate so much his little tummy is tight, so we took the wet food away for a little while (left the dry and the water). He's up to 1 lb, 12.2 oz.

Poor little wonky-headed thing.
I think the humidifier helped. He was snottier but friskier? Like it's breaking up a little.

sorry so late! lol. how's he doing? nice and fat?

[identity profile] ladyjanelly.livejournal.com 2007-06-30 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
He's got a little gut now. Still skin and bones everywhere else though. He put on half a pound, and then leveled off a little. His tummy's full, now he has to process it into muscle and fat and all.

Sinus infection is still a little worrisome.
