I like happy stuff, and being what people perceive as a "great" writer is totally overrated anyway. I hate the majority of the classics. Because how did they get to be classics? By appealing to a large number of people. And the majority of people are plebes, even the educated ones. I am not interested in the opinion of the lowest common denominator.

Also, why does something have to be traumatic to be good??? I dislike that attitude, it's very "chick flick" and I hate those. I'm sorry, but "Steel Magnolias" sucked. My favorite "chick flick" type movie is "LA Story", which is not only sweet and cute but surreal and funny. More stuff needs to be like that. Contrary to popular opinion, you CAN sneak profound thought into genre work.
