Dark Angel Question
So. Those guys with the snakes and all that?
Um, what the heck was their deal? I mean the big plan that Max was supposed to be the only one that could break it.
In 100 words or less would be plenty. 25 would be great. Because I don't really care, I just need to write around it in a futurefic, maybe.

Manticore kinda ruined it for them, because they created all their kids with the immunity. Max was special though because she was given the cure for everyone. Apparently something was going to happen in season three where she caught the equivalent of a cold and every time she sneezed, she was spreading the cure so when the comet with the disease came, everyone would be immune.
At least this is what the commentary from the dvds tell me. I honestly never cared about the breeding cult.

I never cared about the breeding cult either I just thought I should have a better clue in case it was one of those things that cannot be ignored or something (or actually useful to my plot, which I never counted on).

And now back to the topic! The Breeding Cult can pretty much be ignored, unless you WANT to play with the Familiars. And sometimes that's fun because they're EVERYWHERE. I really didn't care too much about them though. The only reason I know anything about them is I watched the commentary on the dvds. I wanted my Alec backstory dammit!

They did say one thing that struck me as odd though. One of the writers commented on Alec and the transgenic movement during the last episode. She said he was probably going to leave in a few hours, but for the moment he was sort of proud to be one of them. He's too much of a loner to really stick around though.
I disagreed whole-heartedly with that statement. From what I'd seen of the character's progression, it looked like he was figuring out what "family" meant. He had a taste of it and was willing to give it a shot. I wouldn't be surprised if he occationally disappeared, but I'd be shocked if he left a few hours after raising the flag.
Oh and one cool Jensen story from the dvds. Apparently Jensen really learned how to play those piano pieces from the Berrisford Agenda. They hired a hand double, but ended up not using him. Everyone was very impressed. Apparently Jensen is awesome. *g*

I agree that it seemed to me that Alec was just figuring out what family is. He seems to so clearly need it and yet be wary of that need. Perhaps what they had intended, or what I would hope they would have done, is that he becomes a bit overwhelmed by what he's experienced in that final episode and does a sort of circle out, circle in, even if he really wants to stay because he's not quite there yet (kind of like a wild creature approaching a person for food and comfort).
That Jensen learned to play the piano is awesome. It's silly stuff like that that makes me happy.

I see this exactly. Opening himself up has never worked out well for him, so it couldn't be easy. Oh, Alec, hiding behind those walls.
also, just in case this is your sorta thing, I wrote a very short jensen RPGen fic about him and the piano. Rated G

When I saw Alec playing the piano I was very impressed with whatever hand model they used, because it was seamless! It really looked like Alec was playing the piano. And then I find out it looked so fantastic because Jensen actually learned the pieces... I'm definitely impressed. *g*

I really don't see Alec leaving. If he was gonna leave, he'd have never gotten so close. He could have done better alone than with the other transgenics at any point in season 2. Safer, richer, more free, more sex drugs and rock&roll. It would have been bad characterization if they'd done that.
I agree with you that he'd probably float around, not too close at first but never too far.

I'm not sure how much time had passed between cancelling the show and recording the commentaries. I'm sure that whatever words and actions the writers gave Alec, Jensen Ackles would have found a way for it to work in character. He's one of those actors who's amazing at created layered characters no matter what sort of crappy line he has to say. ... but I do think it would have been sloppy character development. It's one thing to have him freak out a little and take a step back. It's another to have him just decide to abandon everyone so he can find more hookers and blow.
