This chapter's emotions are so complicated and layered. There's Mac's epiphany - though she's still trying to negotiate what to do; how to come to grips with it. There's Donna's gentle pursuit of truth, tinged with a sad backstory re: Jen that no one had been privy to. (and that surprised me a bit - I guess I hadn't pegged Davis for being so conflicted since his family had presented an image of such a together person. And maybe that's why it was all the more surprising) There's Jensen's valiant attempt to give his family what they need, but whose brave face crumples when his "real" family (Jared) shows up. Jensen really breaks my heart.
And then there's Jared. Poor boy is all over the place - and it seems like he's kinda sorta just barely holding it together. I wonder if he's not going to need a moment to just freak out before he can pull it back together.
I'm so in awe of how much I feel for these characters. Just a wonderful experience reading this. Thanks.
