I just found these Firefighter chapters and I'm so intrigued!
I can see you building the threads of the story already with hinting at Jensen's past, of why he doesn't normally open himself up to people. You give such good details and are hinting so wonderfully. The faint note that something, someone did not turn out all right for him. That when he first came to LA he got hurt and badly. The hints about not caring about the people you save. I'm dying to know who and what.
And the dog's are a great way to start. They just work their way into his life. Your details are really visual, you can see both of them. The kibble bag on the table was hilarious.
And Jared, their relationship is already starting here with this phone call. He's the guy in a hospital bed and so is sneaking under Jensen's guard just like the dogs. But because you can tell Jensen subconsciously really wants someone to connect to but doesn't let himself you find yourself already rooting for Jared to get well.
You've done a great job of hinting at so much. I like the way you just weave it all in subtley but there for the reader already to kind of feel and pick up on.
