As to a mattress, have you tried pricing at The Dump? They are open really weird hours, but they have seriously good prices.
Depending on your budget, might I suggest an Asus for a new laptop. My Toshiba died an honorable death after 5yrs (it also would overheat, wouldn't run more then 10min). But I was able to get an Asus over at Best Buy. They tend toward high memory amounts, good graphics cards and processors and most importantly good reviews.
