Terrific, dark, unexpected, striking! I've read some fic where Nero captures Winona and infant Kirk, but this is brutal and alien and really drives home the depth of alienation (er, not meant to be funny) and rage in Nero and his crew in the twenty-five intervening years that we don't really see in the film.
