So, one thing that really annoys me in AU RPS sometimes is the random inclusion of random celebrities, no matter what strange thing's been done to the actor's backstory/ the altered reality. I'm okay when these are supporting characters that are needed for the story to work and the spot's been filled with an adequitely fleshed out character with a famous-to-us name like Welling.
If I open a fic and the first few paragraphs read like "And Tom grooms the pets and Allison handles cat adoptions and Mike works the register and Chris cleans the bird cages" I'm totally on that back-button.
The problem is, these background names have become so hard-wired into the SN RPS fandom that it feels weird to write a damn OC for a supporting, non-romantinc character.
I have no freakin' idea who Chris Kane is outside of what I've read on LJ. I've seen pics but no interviews, no music, no tv-spots. Nada.
And I still feel this pressure to give the role of Jensen's college room-mate to him. I've had a word-file open for 3 days with Jared standing outside the door, ready to knock.
Screw that. I'm tossing in an OC that I know over a celebrity that I don't.
