Ah ha ha. See, in my twisted brain, none of those work 'cause Sam is missing. In my 'perfect' scenario, either Dean finds a way to bring Sam across to him, or he and Jeff find something that will help him to 'win' in his world and he goes back. No Sam makes me very, very sad.
If Sam is to never, ever be returned to/brought over/helped, then...the second best would be Jeff and Dean actually falling into a father/son relationship and Dean starts hunting in *that* world and Jeff is there to support and help him but doesn't actually hunt and healing happens and eventually Dean finds someone...not a Sam *replacement* but someone who is superficially like Sam but totally different and eventually he feels like he has his family back and he's doing good and they're all...happy. Heh.
I admit, i'm a sap, i love well-written schmoop and the quirks of my brain - that insists quietly but constantly that these worlds become *real* when we create them - won't let me be happy leaving a character in a hopeless, miserable situation.
