Kendra's mom doesn't deserve a good girl like her.

So. Kendra and co got invited to a wedding. Kendra wanted to go so she could see her grandmother.

When Kendra got picked up, the trunk was full of her mother's luggage and her mom had brought along a friend, so it was Kendra, her little sister and a large woman in the back seat for a 5 hr drive. Kendra with her little suitcase on her lap. The whole way.

Kendra's outfit was deemed inapropriate for the wedding.
Kendra's eyebrows were deemed inappropriate for the wedding. Her mom decides the best way to fix them is a freakin' box cutter blade.

Kendra went to the wedding with a bandaid on her forehead from getting cut witha box cutter blade.

Half Kendra's family thinks she's sleeping with us for room and board. Basically calling her a hooker. That's good for her self esteem.

They get back to the dallas area. Kendra's mom lets her big sister out of the car and tries not to wake Kendra up so she can start the drive to Galveston (which Kendra didn't want to go to) without her knowledge.

Luckily Kendra woke up. I didn't feel like driving to Galveston tonight.

Um I don't know the story behind Kendra and her strange family but it doesn't sound good.

She's 19. Has lived with us almost 2 yrs (was just past 18 when she moved in and a few months short of 20 now).

Her mom's a freakin' alcoholic psycho.

It wasn't the whole box cutter, just the blade itself. Not the correct tool for neatening her eyebrows. Kendra didn't even feel it. One minute her mom's all "Hold still. Stop frowning." and then blood's running down her nose.

Yeah. She's about done trying to hold up half a relationship with that woman. Every time they get together to do something (like shopping for a dress for the wedding)she lies and they end up somewhere else (like doing laundry in the worst part of south Dallas for 5 hrs). Or "come babysit your little sister tonight" really means "See you next week"

It's hard to close out your family. But she's nearming that point, I think. I'll support her in any sane interactions she has with her mom (with someone else there like her older sister or her friend Alicia).

Yeah. You can only go so far and then no further. It's not fair at all to expect that she suffer just because this woman - who has problems - is her mother. Someone who actually cares about you *doesn't* pull that kind of crap.

My family always took in kids. My cousin stayed with us, we had boyfriends that had been kicked out stay on our couch, other kids that needed a place here and there. There was always someone other than just us at our house so I understand without thinking someone's a pimp for giving someone a place to stay. It's a shame short sighted, assholes can't.

Still razor, face, that's a NO. Especially if it's an alcholic psycho waving a razor around my face it's a HELL NO.

That's really cool. There needs to be more people like that in the world. There's so many kids hungry for a little stability, a little unconditional love. The chance to thrive and feel they can make a contribution.

The woman lies almsot every single time Kendra takes the risk and goes somewhere with her. THAT is an important point. If Kendra says no, she-as a legal adult-doesn't want to do something, then being transported somewhere against her will *is* kidnapping. Not to mention pretty fucking rude.

It's extremely hard to cut yourself off from your family, I know; but there comes a point where you have to decide if they're toxic to your mental and emotional health or not.

She's got the right to be happy and safe.

Sorry, I don't even know the parties involved, but that *really* hits my last nerve.

Please give my sympathy to Kendra, and a hug as well. I've gone through something of the same and the best solution for me was limited supervised contact for many years. To this day, I don't go anywhere to visit with my family unless I've got independent transportation available to me.

Wow, that's pretty special! Oddly enough I was once kidnapped by a family member and taken to Galveston against my will. They told me we were going to the corner store! We were in Louisiana so it was quite a distance.

I have never been shaved with a box cutter though! Kendra wins there. Maybe if I visit my aunt!

Not to downplay the shittiness of what happened, of course. I was accused of prostitution by my grandma, this was when I lived in Houston. I finally got tired of it and quit talking to everyone I was related to (except immediate family, and even there I kept it to a minimum). Once I cut off the problem people I felt way better. Kendra might have to do the same thing. It's a sucky idea, but when I finally got it done my life was so much better. I'm always recommending it to friends with crazy families (and I mean BATSHIT) but it's really hard for most people to cut the cord when things are so messed up. It's like there's some kind of sick bond happening. I dunno.
