I like dogs. Don't want one of my own, but I like to say hi to other peoples' dogs.

I am very allergic to dogs. Not cats. Just dogs.

I kind of forget just how allergic I am. visited with the neighbors yesterday and their two huge collies.

Broke out in hives. Just a little.

Woke up with a sore throat and stuffed-up head and my chest feels heavy.

I MUST NOT pet dogs any more.

EDIT: Now that I'm awake, I'm still breaking out in hives on my arms and behind my right ear. Lovely. I'm at school and have no benedryl.

I have the exact same situation with cats. I LOVE cats. I'm insanely allergic to cats. I can't OWN a cat because I'm so allergic, so I feed two strays. Nilchance's cat fic has made me long for a cat so much that I stupidly allowed Hera to rub her face all over mine. I'm dumb.

I dunno how people with allergies have pets. Like they take pills every day to supress part of their body's reaction so they can. Seems a little silly to me.

Pills make me groggy and I'm STILL allergic. I'm just LESS allergic and MORE asleep. I can't do it. :( I wish I could.

I'm allergic to dogs too, but not cats. With dogs, if I pet them, I have to immediately wash my hands. For me, it's not as bad as you--I don't get hives. I get hayfever-like symptoms: itchy, burning eyes, runny nose, stuffed sinuses, etc...

I like dogs too so (my folks have such a sweet one) and it's so annoying....

I went straight home and took a shower and changed clothes. I think I'm getting more allergic. So no more dogs.

That's cool that I'm not the only one allergic to dogs and not cats though. I appreciate you sharing that. I get all kinds of funny looks when I tell people no dogs but cats are ok.

Eek! Can you get some kind of epi-pen from the docs to counteract it? Or is it not that kind of allergy?

It's not that instant of an allergy now--it is getting worse though. I just need to not touch dogs anymore.

If it gets worse while you are still at school, they should have a student clinic that you can go to, they might have benedryl there.

Also here is that webcomic I told you about that reminds me of you sometimes:

maybe the long hair on the collies made it worse. I don't know if it'll make any difference, but I'll try to make sure that Tony is all bathed and brushed when you come over.

y'know, I petted tony last time I was over and he didn't do it to me. must be the longer hair. I appreciate it though. Brushed would be great.

Ack!
I react like that to insect bites. Might there be a nurse/clinic type thing to visit? They might have benedryl...

Oooo ick. Is there a nurse station on your campus that cang give you benedryl? I broke out into hives once. Turns out I'm deathly allergic to lentils. Had to go to the hospital, passed out from lack of air. Horrible!

Hope you feel better!

My sympathies, I suffer the same. I can't even go into a house with a dog without experiencing itchy eyes, nose, red lumps on my skin. If I touch, eeek it's a full on lack of breath and off to the hospital. Also have issues with horse hair, pure wool, cats, rabbits anything hairy, hence we have giant african land snails as pets!

I keep a packet of antihistamines on me all the time now. Another of my sisters has just bought a dog - are my family trying to tell me something... Trouble with the tabs, even the low dose from my doc, I start to nod off, still better than a visit to the accident and emergency.

Strangely, the allergies only started about ten years ago, after I was diagnosed as having an underactive thyroid - don't know if its just coincidental - or our additive afflicted food chain that has caused it. As in the past I've had cats and dogs without any probs.

It's so frustrating as I love dogs and it really is difficult to not stretch out that hand and ruffle its fur.

Wish you well. Off to read the latest chappie. Jane :)

wow. that's harsh. I'm not quite that allergic.

I hate the drowsy feeling from antihystimines. I had a dr prescribe them to me for sleeplessness once.

Hmm. Thyroid. Interesting.

I know. When a dog comes up all "Loooooove meeee!" I have such a hard time being cold.
