Also, here's the best info on the Amazon fail that I've seen.

Dude. If it was everything with adult content?  Okay, whatever.  But disappearing just the GLBT stuff is not cool.  This has directly hurt published authors on my flist.

It's not all that different than if they'd chosen to derank all books with interracial relations or those targeted at any other demographic.

They've deranked biographies and other non-fiction.  They've deranked parenting guides.  They've deranked children's books.

Gay does not equal porn.

Amazon is rank.

I heard about this and it is the pettiest form of 'soft' censorship you can get.

The fact that it was GLBT stuff disappearing just adds bigoted insult to injury. Who the fuck appointed Amazon the keeper of what is acceptable to have easy access to? Are they going to try and go the 'OMG WE MUST THINK OF THE CHILDREN!' route? Because last time I checked, minors didn't have bank accounts or credit cards with which to order from Amazon, and the rules restricted accounts to ADULTS ONLY. So even if a kid went to amazon and surfed - what would they see???? I book cover? A title? The knowledge that such things exist?

So yeah, any excuse they want to offer up does.not.fly. Especially, oh, oops, just a glitch. Yeah right.

Oh, not just GLBT stuff. Also feminist literature. Rape survivor books, that sort of thing.

Thanks for the information. Spent an hour researching the issue. Not sure, at this point what to make of the supposed selective blackballing of gay material, but I am annoyed that amazon has a policy of deranking 'adult' material. That explains why my casual searches for erotica on amazon have been so disappointing. They really should just use the google model and let individual users toggle 'adult' content instead of doing it by default.
