Fic: "I'm not left-handed either"

ladyjanelly(nobody else has done this costume combo have they? I did a search but couldn't find it. If I read it somewhere and forgot, just let me know and I'll take this down).
Just a little 350 word Halloween time-stamp for the "Walk a While with Me" 'verse. Unbeta'd. Hopefully getting back in the swing of writing.
Teresa settles the hat on Cougar’s head, a crowing glory with a wide brim and a white plume of a feather.
“Done,” she says, stepping back and looking him over.
Cougar turns and looks at himself in the mirror. The dramatic hat, the poofy white shirt and leather vest, wide belt and dark brown pants, a folded-over vinyl cover on his boots to make them look swash-buckly. It’s not a professional costume, but he likes it all the better for not being all bought at a store.
Teresa and Sophie hold their breath, waiting for his approval. He considers, and thinks he looks good. There is only one problem.
“There is no mask?” he asks, and Sophie huffs at him. Okay, so not Zorro. His mother would tell him he was Zorro enough for a lifetime, before he outgrew Trick-or-Treating.
“Am I a pirate?” Careful. A second wrong answer could put him on the dangerous side of offended females.
“You’re Inigo Montoya!” Sophie tells him like he really should have guessed, and he supposes that she’s right.
“Ahhh,” he says, a smile playing at his lips. He turns on Sophie, crouching down to her level, his hand on his sword (which is in reality a car antenna with a handle of duct tape). “I am looking for the man with six fingers on his left hand,” he tells her, quiet and intense. “Have you seen this man? I must find him and kill him, for honor to be satisfied.”
“Oh my God,” Teresa groans. “Now I see Jake’s ulterior motive in suggesting your costume idea to Sophie. I hope you’re up to it.”
Cougar resists snickering. Who is he to deny Jake the chance to act out a teenage fantasy?
He raises his eyebrows towards the other bedroom where Jake is getting dressed. “Dread Pirate Roberts?”
“He’s been practicing his accent all week.”
Cougar smirks, and his thoughts take a turn that is not suitable for the presence of children and ladies.
“Perhaps I should go see if he needs help with his mask.”
