Homeowner stuff
Mar. 16th, 2007 11:58 amSo apparently, the guy who owned this house before us didn't believe in the wonders of pressure treated lumber.
Or the concept of building barns more than a single brick off of the ground.
I'm pretty sure there's some heinous rot, and possibly termite damage under the good barn in the back, which sucks because that's the one we'd like to keep, of the two. My friend James said he is gonna try to come over on Sat and check it out. The porch-roof on that barn is rotting too; the shingles don't overlap the facing enough, and the plywood underneath got soaked.
On a seperate note, I'm enjoying having a yard. I spent about 2 hrs yesterday and an hr today pulling weeds with this new weed-hound contraption. It's cool because it doesnt' involve much bending over, and it pulls those broad flat weeds from the roots instead of just pulling the leaves off of them. I am slowly accepting some of the alternative ground-cover that's going on in the yard, like this stuff that looks like strawberry plants but is more flat and has tiny yellow flowers. I think my mom called it snake-berries?
I really want a dandilion salad right now. Is it wrong that I want to eat my vanquished enemies?
I'm hoping to run to the garden center in a little while, maybe buy the fluffy rose-bush I want and some ground cover for the side since the ornamental sweet-potato didn't come back except in one tiny place. I swear, that was the best $4.00 I've ever spent though. I'll probably try it again.
