Sometimes I wonder if this owning a home thing is worth it.

I mean, I love my yard, and planting flowers and pulling weeds and all that sense of accomplishment.

When something goes wrong though, it's a pain in the ass.

One of the selling points on our house was the 'barn' in the back.  And by 'barn,' I mean a finished spare bedroom, complete with cedar paneling, berber carpet, heat and a/c.

Now the bottom edges of the siding is rotting, and some of the beams under the floor at the edges (and maybe inside too, I dunno).  I was thinking I could just get it lifted up and put on cinder-blocks so it wouldn't get wet, but on the back side, where it's a cinder-block off the ground already (because of the hill) it's rotting already, so I don't think that'll fix it.

I was just going to get a circular saw and cut the bottom 3" off all around and replace it with another (water-proofed) strip, but the edges of the wood go behind this metal flashing on the edges, which goes up under the roof, and I don't think I can get it off without breaking something.

Not that we really use it often, but the room is really neat and it added to the value of the house, and it's convenient when people come visiting.  I just don't know where to start, and every day, the point-of-no-return gets closer, where it'd be cheaper to replace it than try to fix it.
