Okay, y'all.

Just to get closer to comparing apples to apples.

There's a site online called renderotica.  It hosts computer rendered and hand-drawn smut.  That's all it's about. 

You can find a freakin' ton of different, weird, sick and freaky kinks there.

Seriously.  Stuff I hadn't even heard of.  

They host images of gore, vore, scat, everything from sweet vanilla sex to extreme sadism.  It's a place where you want to be very very careful when you set your gallery-viewing preferances.  Seriously.

And Renderotica's TOS requires all images to look 20.  Period.  I have never ever stumbled across a 'borderline' image there.

Why would any blogging company, in their right minds, say it's okay to post drawings that look younger than 18 when freakin' Renderotica won't? 

i am totally not saying that LJ/6A went about it the right way.  They were slow, they were vague, they were outright rude.  But get with reality, people.  They CANNOT say that it's okay to visually portray underage persons, even fictional, in explicitly sexual situations and expect to have a working business plan.  

EDIT: I think it's crazy that anyone EVER thought LJ could or should allow things that the porny-McPorn hardcore porn sites wouldnt allow.  

I think it's sad that so many people think something's perfectly okay that a PORN site won't touch with a ten-foot-pole.  A weird, kinky PORN site.

I know a large number of people that were whining that they don't want their kiddie porn drawings to go away have shut up about it or gone elsewhere.  

This was very much a "what were they thinking?" kind of post.

Better. I actually unfriended some poeple whose posts on the subject were making me feel ill.

I see less that pisses me off now, and I'm happier. :)

Most people I have seen have long since acknowledged LJ/6A's right to host what they want to host, however much we disagree with their choices.

What has upset us (and not just people in fandom, cf. comments on news and lj_biz) is how they have handled the whole thing.

I added a few thoughts in a 'signed ananomous' comment, but Jesus, people are unrealistic. If the hardcore porn groups won't do it, why should a journaling site take that risk?

I love you. thanks for backing me up. I was worried for a second for not asking if it's okay to quote you beforehand. and I felt that there was no need to bring all their drama here. keep it in their own sandbox. I'm amazed the post hasn't been deleted yet *g*

actually, these guys and their ignorance amuse me. it's a bit taxing to really want to sway some minds, as they're quite happy to have LJ as the evil scapegoat (have you met Frank?) and they'd all rather not question their own little perversions.

Your instincts were perfect on this. Notta problem at all. I feel my own lj is kinda small and not the perfect place to state an opinion for a lot of people to see it, but I didn't want all the drama of posting it on lj_biz or something.

It makes me sick/sad/disappointed that people think Chan and that crap is okay, that they think they can get away with it forever, that GJ will lose their server and go to freakin' jail protecting their kiddie-porn-drawings.

Thank GOD, someone who really understands. I love your Screw Fandom icon, except the thing looks like it's backgrounded on a piece of MATZOH so it confused me at first ROFL.

Sheesh, I gag at underage Sammy in fic (less than 18; Dean can be 16 'cause that poor young man is OLD by that time and it's perfectly streetlegal in much of the country). Sammy to me is no better than running unaged anime couples. *former little kid with bad memories spits viciously*

And Dean loves his little brother, enough to damn himself for having failed him in his own eyes, for being lost without someone to protect, for the chance to give him another chance.

That Dean would never take advantage of an underage kid. He would die rather than hurt his brother, and proved it in canon.

This is a problematical fandom we love. The Wincest, while creepy, is understandable between the way John had them grow up like survivalists on the run instead of little boys and the way they're still so isolated with no one to understand what's going on except their only remaining genetic family. However, when you factor in the vital point that Dean is for all practical purposes Sammy's mother, that nearly all the childhood warmth, protection and love this man remembers came from a brother four years older than himself, it becomes really creepy again at times. I didn't even get into the fandom until two months ago because I couldn't figure around it in my head.

You could even make the point that Sammy has a cracked-out, slashified version of an Electra complex going there, but at least he's twenty-two when the show starts and it's HIS damn business because nobody's ever been as good, loved him a fraction as much as his Dean, the male Stella Dallas of the Hunter community. If John's parentoid craziness messed Sam up, it totally shredded Dean's self-worth and outlook into confetti. He lives for his family, will do anything for his Sammy. Anything. It was difficult to internalize.

However, the tremendous canonical bond makes for some of the most phenomenal genfic I've read in ANY fandom.
