 Supernatural ep 3.01
Spoilers!

Jensen.  Oh god.  He's so damn pretty.
Jared.  Not bad at all.  I like whatever they did to his hair.
Bobby! In a suit!
The Sam and Dean interacting about the crossroads deal.

Just about everything else.

Dean not worrying about his arteries? Cool.  Dean giving exposition about how he's dead anyway and a sandwich ain't gonna hurt? Stupid.

Like--wouldn't the 7 deadly sins be a little harder to take down?  I'd have expected 7 episodes.  Such a waste.  What's next episode, the four horsemen?

The sickly-sweet hunter couple.  Overplayed. Not believable. Gag.  I'd have much rather seen the unconventional-looking black chick stay around than blondie though.

Buffy-wanna-be chick.  With her oh-so-mysterious appearing and disappearing.  And her stupid-long un-bound hair.  I know fighter chicks.  Nobody goes out on the field without /something/ to tie her hair back.  Hmmm, how contrived and unbelievable can we make the circumstances for a first meeting?  Like the hunters can't figure that if there's three of them and 6 sins they'll get outnumbered if they split up.

So. Some math.  Of the demons they tried to exorcise from (possibly) living hosts, 2 lived and one died.  So Buffy kills 3 with her Colt-that-needs-no-bullets and nobody feels bad at all?

I pretty much hated the crap out of this episode.  The interaction between the boys was the only thing to enjoy (besides Bobby).  I can't think of an episode I enjoyed less, to tell you the truth.

I agree with ALL that! Dean, Sam, Bobby interaction was all for the WIN in this ep, but the rest...pretty much sucked as eps go. The only thing I didn't see coming was the demon bar thing, but then again how are you going to kill a whole story line (that had potential) in one episode without bringing them all together?!

What sucked the worst for me was Sam -was- supposed to be some kind of king?! And yet little miss blonde bombshell takes out the three of them! WTF! They even have the nerve to bring it up at the end. Almost as if they are saying 'yeah maybe that was a little stupid' but they don't explain it!

....dude, sorry I totally ranted in you journal... :)
Hopefully next one will be better.

The demon bar was cool. they could have played with that too for a while longer.

Ranting is cool. I started it. :)

Dude, she just--okay, she's got the magical no-bullets Colt, but she comes in with no backup weapon at all? And aims at the hardest-to-hit targets on all the demons and hits with every single freakin' swing she makes. And she fights without a single hair getting out of place.

She better have sold her sould for that shit. Only not, 'cause that's Dean's deal.

Hi there. I recently friended you. *waves*

It's funny, because I wasn't crazy about this ep either, but for the opposite reasons. Other than the opening scene - Wincest bunnies, hello! - I thought the Sam/Dean interaction was far too obvious. Like you, I have trouble imagining Dean going on about his year to live, but not just in the context of the arteries; if he truly wants Sam to stop looking for an out, he's not going to keep taunting him about his year at every turn. And Dean's speech about being tired? It usually takes a little more pressure to open Dean up; I thought that conversation came far too easily, and felt more like exposition for new viewers than genuine character interaction.

So, yeah, not a great one. Plus side? I can definitely think of episodes I enjoyed less. Heart, for starters.

Hmmm.

I wonder if he's like--I dunno. Working an angle somehow. Like Sam's gonna wanna know how he's "feeling" about it until it's run into the ground. Maybe he's trying to short-ccut that somehow.

Bobby made this episode !!!

Dialog could have been better and the episode didnt have to feel like a day at the race tack with everything going like 300 MPH.

I need a drink and a Purple Nurple wont cover it.

So much potential, so rushed and wasted.

Right. But if Buffy hadn't stabbed the other three in the neck or head, chances are that two more humans would be breathing still. I thought it kinda sucked that Sam didn't give a rat's ass. I mean, Dean killed a person with a demon in it for Sam, but Sam trusts Dean. Why did he trust this chick so deeply?

It struck me as weird.

The fact that Cassidy appears in the STAR credits right after Jensen, does not bode well for this season. Jim Beaver was listed as a guest star. WTF?

They reminded me of that scene in Pulp Fiction where the couple is all lovey-dovey in the diner just before they rob the place. Except that in the show they just sort of whine and tremble in the face of the demons instead of kicking any sort of ass.

A while ago you mentioned buying a laptop case that only needed to be unzipped to use the laptop. Can you tell me the name of it/where you found it? It sounds very useful and so far I've only found bulky things.

Thanks.

I liked the idea of the episode in general except for a few details that kinda bugged me. Minor detail, the couple. They bugged me lol

Then there's what's her face. I'd have been okay if she'd killed one, giving Sam the opportunity to get the other 2 or atleast assist in killing them but killing all three by herself? That was too much. And of course, if we could all look that good after physical activity, life would be GOOD lol And the mystery around her? I could do without.

One thing I liked that you didn't mention was Dean with the blonde demon. I have a thing for Dean/Demon. Crossroad demon preferably but I'll take any demon lol

So like I said, I liked the episode minus a few details lol

The chick was too much and too cool. If I read that in fanfic I'd have clicked back around the time she was doing that appearing/disappearing thing and definitely when she killed the 3 demons.

Dude. Dean/Lust was hot. And cool. And I love how he was fakin'. Mostly.

The creepy Sam-stalking girl is so not Buffy, man, she is Angel :P He was the mysterious dissapearing character who made no sense. Buffy was a pretty straight-forward girl...

That was a really good point about her not caring about who she killed. I guess she is like Gordon in that regard?

Also, I remember how everyone said Jo was a mary-sue, but really, she was ...pretty average for where/how she grew up. This chick is way more mary-sue-ish, with her mysterious weapons and the stalking of the main character and saving his life than running off for No Reason.

From: [identity profile] ladyjanelly.livejournal.com
Heh. Angel with boobs. It really, yeah, made no sense.

I can see her not-caring. I expected Sam to be more "Dude, you just killed them without trying an exorcism?" instead of "Yay! You saved me! You're so pretty!"

She is totally a Sue. This episode was like bad fanfic. I became angry watching it.

Date: 2007-10-06 03:43 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silverkit.livejournal.com
I don't think we know enough about her to call her a Mary Sue yet. All we know about her is that can fight with a knife, and seems to be stalking Sam (and well, who doesn't want to stalk Sam). I did like the episode, and I also liked the new girl character, but I'm a big sucker for girls who can fight. =^.^=

I think they're introducing new girl slowly, because a lot of fans claimed we go Jo "shoved down our throats" too quickly (I liked Jo, so I never minded her, but that did seem to be a large consensus on her character).

I do hope Tamara comes back. Though if she does come back I hope it's after she's taken the time to purchase a fire arm first. Besides her large stake (I'm still trying to figure out of the stake was an honest to god Buffy shout out by the writers since Kripke was a fan of the show) she was oddly weaponless for a good part of the episode.

From: [identity profile] ladyjanelly.livejournal.com
I think they should have let her fight then. Make it hard, not just dancing around and stabbing things in the head and having pretty hair. It was way too easy for her to be better than the boys. If that had been SAm saving Dean like that, or Dean saving Sam it still would have looked funky.

In my opinion, Chick needed:
1)a backup weapon to soften the targets from range to make the fight somewhat believable
2)a freakin' hair tie. Because I can't buy a fighter chick who doesn't do something about a potential visual obstruction
3)a much less superior attitude in delivering her first line.

I think she was off and Sam's reactions to her were off.

Date: 2007-10-06 04:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] silverkit.livejournal.com
You didn't think it looked like a fight? True, they did slow it down, but she moves, kicks, dodges, gets punched, recovers and then stabs. The hand-to-hand fight is something they've used before on the show. In Nightshifter you've got Dean, with the letter opener, in the bank, with the shape shifter for one (I totally didn't mean to sound like I was finishing a game of Clue there). I don't think this is supposed to show that she's better than the boys, just that she too can handel herself with a weapon.

And,(as with all of this) this is totally my own opinion, but I actually thought Sam's reaction to her fit.
After she says, "I just saved your ass."
He says, "Well I just saved yours too."

Not the words of a guy falling for the pretty, but more of a guy leveling the playing field.

As for the hair; I have a whole long thing about long hair on chicks who fight on T.V., but this comment is already really long (which I apologize for). I agree you'd tie your hair up (or cut it off), but she's not the first girl on T.V. to fight evil with an impractical do, so I forgive it.

Date: 2007-10-06 04:14 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ladyjanelly.livejournal.com
Dude, never apologize for a long comment.

I rewatched it, and you're right about the fight being more than I realized. Still, she gets punched twice and has not a mark on her and perfect hair and that annoys me. i think the shortness of the episode itself (less than 40 minutes) made them edit everything into little blinks of scenes, and the fight itself, from her first entering the scene to the death of the last guy is less than 30 seconds.

I really like both River and Zoe on Firefly, and Aeryn (sp?) on Farscape, so it's not the fact that I'm anti-woman. I just don't know if it's possible to gracefully add a third star into the show at this point.

Which kind of sucks, because I like jared and Jensen and I really don't want the long hrs to wear them down as people. It would be better for them if the PTB could add a third person to the show, I just think they're going about it the wrong way. If Tamara was gonna be a recurring regular (not a "new star")I think I'd be a lot more open to it. It's like they're trying too hard or something.

And yeah. I know I'm contradicting myself all over the place in this. I'm so conflicted. I really want the show to do well. I just can't see how they're hoping to pull this off.

Date: 2007-10-07 06:18 am (UTC)

This episode was less than 40 minutes! What the hell's up with that?

Not the fact that I'm anti-woman.

No, no. I never thought that!(Though I've seen a few of those posts and they're a bit..unsettling). I'm not sure how they're going to work her in. I try to stay spoiler free, (though I do know blonde girl's name), but if she is indeed a "regular" that doesn't mean we'll see her in every episode.

The way some one explained this to me once is that being cast as a "regular" on a show pretty much means that you are under contract to be available whenever they need you. You can't go off and work on another project that might get in the way of the show you signed with's schedule. They've got to put you in so many episodes, but not all of them, or even half of them. Just as many as they need you for.

I'm with you in that I watch for Sam and Dean. I like the buddy dynamic of the show, but if new girl gets treated like (as you put it) a "recurring regular" I think she has the potential to be very cool. I'm willing to give this a shot because I've really enjoyed seeing the SPN universe grow, and like to think that it can only get better.

She gets punched twice and has not a mark on her.

Like you said though, we only see her for 30 seconds. If we caught up with her in an hour, I bet her jaw would be all puffy. And, really, Sam and Dean seem to have the magical ability to walk away from violent fights with nothing more than a few scratches too. Dean goes a few rounds with Gordon in "Bloodlust," but still manages to look damn pretty while staring soulfully into the camera a few minutes later (Though really, Jensen or Jared could do anything from reading the phone book to performing open-heart surgery and still look pretty.) You're right, it's unrealistic, but it's unrealistic across the board.

I know I'm contradicting myself all over the place in this.
Eh, our contradictions are what make us interesting. =)

Word on that!

I have to say, I liked the episode. I liked how Dean is in denial and how he's doing his best to convince Sam to move on. I liked how he's being Dean, not showing what's really on his mind, but going all "I'm doing fine".

Talking about contrivance, Heart is still on my top list of contriving episodes. I still don't buy the werewolf lore the way they presented it. Probably never will.

How're you doing, sweets?

I'm really really glad when I hear people enjoyed it more than I did. I want the show to do well. I trust that there will be episodes that i"ll love again if they don't get cancelled, so people enjoying it is a good thing.

Yeah, Heart wasn't high on my favs list, except for the visuals of Jared so naked.

I'm doin' alright. Swamped with school work and preparing for Banner Wars this weekend and still not feeling good in the guts department. How've you been?
