Thanks. :) It really started with my hunger for hurt!Sam and went from there. omniscient!sam was actually my first problem. If he knew too much, it was impossible to balance and he became overwhelmingly powerful. He sees so much that it really fucks him up. There's definitely backstory later in the fic.
I think Andrew Vachss is the main influence on my style when I'm writing grittier modern-day fics. He does modern-noir type stuff, hard-boiled detectives and NY underground and crime and criminals.
