Our old-lady-cat had a stroke or seizure or something today.
She was acting weird, growling at people, and then she laid down and stared into space (with the laptop a few inches from her face) for a few minutes, and when she was done, she wasn't using her right front paw.

Took her to the emergency vet, and they said it was a stroke or seizure or something.  So specific.  She was acting drugged--wouldn't flinch at a finger coming towards her eye, didn't fuss when they took her temp.  They gave her a pill and shot and sent her home.

She sometimes doesnt recognize people, and she walked into a wall.  She's hiding under the bed, so we're giving her time to adjust or whatever. Taking her to her regular vet first thing in the morning.

God, that's awful!
I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope she will recover as much as possible.

I had a kitty that that happened to. You're lucky, though; when mine had his stroke, he couldn't use his back legs. But, anyhow, I know how you feel.

*big big hugs*

There was a lady at the emergency-vet who came in like 15 minutes after us who had the same problem.

It could have been so very much worse. I'm so grateful it wasn't worse.

She's a little better, but still kind of weird. I appreciate the support.

Thanks. She's a little better, but still kind of weird. I appreciate the support. I dunno how people with human children cope with illness or accidents. I'd lose it.

It's actually kind of easier with kids, once they're verbal - they can *tell* you what hurts and how they feel, so there's a lot less guessing.

It still sucks, though.

True. I still think it would stress me out. When Kendra had her moped accident, that was it for me. Seriously.

Monstrous hasn't ever been terribly sick. She broke her wrist once, at tumbling, but that's been the worst thing. I guess i'm just better in a crises sort of thing. When she fell at a friends, cut her eyebrow open, the SO was pretty much hysterical, i was like 'omg, please calm down, you are *not helping*!!' Heh.

My parents both being 'hospital' people helped, since they never got too worked up when somebody got hurt, just dealt with it.

It's never fun, though.

And I thought I was the only one you knew who ran into walls and hid under under the bed.

Kendra bounces off the wall at least once a day. It's crazy.

You're the only one who hides under the bed though.

How's life been? Work done kicking your ass?

Shit. I had something similar happen to a cat, out of nowhere he showed up at the house (this was when I still let them go outside) and he couldn't close one eye or move one of his ears. It was weird. I freaked out and took him to the vet, but they weren't sure what it was. He recovered completely and it never happened again, so maybe everything will be fine.

I hope that's how things will go with your kitty!

I took her to the regular vet today, an they said they can do a shit-ton of tests, but the results may not show the problem, and if they do, there's little to be done. I brought her home to be loved instead. She seems more aware today, but still having problems with that paw, and not feeling too good.

Yeah, that's basically what my vet said. I really, really hope she'll be okay. How's Piff?

Piff's great. Since the mouse incident, he's been patrolling all the corners of the house. The cold weather's making him super-lovey. Wants to be carried around all the freakin' time. We've got tile or wood floors through most of the house, and we only heat whatever room we're in, so I don't blame him.

Like I blogged at Sam, if there's anything I can do, let me know. I know how much this sucks having had to put down Snowball a few years ago. She was Daniel's dog really, but I loved her too. She had liver failure and just stood there staring into corners. She had to be carried outside to "do her business" and couldn't hold her bladder any more. Kept pee-ing on the floor. We couldn't handle seeing her like that anymore - no quality of life. So my Brother and Daniel took her to the vet together and put her to sleep. I wimped out. Couldn't do it. We all had a good cry. I probably would have extended her life indefinately and she would have kept trying. Both of us never quite new when to quit. I can put hostage negotiation training on my resume but I completely loose it when it comes to my critters...

I appreciate it. We had to put Blackfoot down almost 2 yrs ago too. I learned a lot about "one more test" and things like that. I doubt we'll take her back to the vet unless she seems in pain.

I just left a comment for you and your husband on his LJ but I had to tell you LadyJ that I am really sorry to hear this, I can tell you love your pets very much. Something like this happened to one of my cats too. I hope you guys are well and that your cat will recover.

I appreciate it. She's a sweet kitty. She's a little better, but seems sort of drugged or wonky. The foot's still non-working.

I learned my lesson with the last sick cat. Untill her quality of life takes a hard dip, we won't take her back to the vet.
