Oh god, this one was just so sad. And terrible things like that do happen and I think that's why this fic is so captivating - the merger of the terrible and real and gritty with this tender love story (or at least the hint of one) and Jeff's protectiveness. I think the contrast is part of what makes this fic so effective.
