So. This boycott...
Mar. 20th, 2008 01:33 pmI probably won't post tonight since I'll be at a friend's hanging out, and then Friday morning we're leaving for Spring War. If I get ch 18 of the homeless!verse back I might post it before we leave, because otherwise it'll be Sunday and this is the longest I've not-posted on that story and I feel bad.
But it's not about the strike or whatever. I just--don't get what the big deal is. Yeah, I know they don't listen to us. I know they think they're following the money but pissing some of their users off. If it's a bad policy they'll lose money in the long run. If it's a good one they won't. I don't take it personally. I love you guys and until you all go away I'll be here.

Date: 2008-03-20 06:52 pm (UTC)I'm just hoping that people don't all disappear to different journals. I'll probably just fold up my tent and go back to mailing lists if LJ fandom crumbles.
And I am SO looking forwards to more Homeless!Jensen.

Date: 2008-03-20 07:53 pm (UTC)I really do hope people stay at LJ. We're here for each other, not the parent company, y'know? Why let their wankery make us not have fun with each other. At this point, nothing they're doing is a threat to any fun I"m having. I got nothing to protest.
Also, I don't like the peer-pressure aspects of the strike. But yeah. My views on fandom and LJ have been a little counter-culture sometimes.

Date: 2008-03-20 09:27 pm (UTC)With regard to fandom vs Live Journal, I totally agree. If they want to go silent on LJ, I expect that LJ will yawn and turn over in its sleep. I don't know about you, but I sure don't post every day, or even every week, so they won't notice if I do stay silent. Not only that, but it will not do a lick of good. They're doing what they're doing for business purposes. They owe us nothing, and they especially owe the free journals nothing.
It's fandom's nature to wank, and I suspect that's because fans are people, and people wank. I play in such a teeny corner of the sandbox that most of it goes straight over my head. May it pass over yours too!

Date: 2008-03-20 09:32 pm (UTC)Baking compost? I've got four 30 gallon garbage cans rotting in the back yard in the texas sun. The first is almost done. I've been putting peat moss in the soil for now, and shoveling out wheelbarrel loads of sticky clay. The dirt's like kindergarten paste, but heavy.

Date: 2008-03-20 07:06 pm (UTC)They've got the right to make decisions regarding their business, which may or may not be nice/wise/effective/polite.
If it bugs people that much, they can move along to IJ or wherever, but I doubt it'll be much different-IJ has already stopped selling permanent accounts at $40 due to the influx of people. (They say they've got to make sure they're able to make money in the future, etc etc...familiar?)
I just wish people would stop getting so equally indignant about *everything-some sense of proportion would be good.

Date: 2008-03-20 07:55 pm (UTC)You're right about the sense of proportion. We got organized some last kerfluffel and now that there's a small stupidity the machine of resistance rolls along like it's fighting some mass opression.

Date: 2008-03-20 10:03 pm (UTC)IJ sold perm accounts for $40?
they had to stop it because too many new users?
excuse my little dance of schadenfreude and I-told-you-so.
I was already grinning silly when I went to IJ last night and noticed the huge google ad box on the main page.
anyways, word. and yep, there's more people out here sharing your opinion.
btw, totally unrelated: I love that icon of yours.

Date: 2008-04-07 01:38 pm (UTC)I keep my IJ for copying stuff I like, so that if anything happens to my LJ, I've got the info. But I hardly use it-I find the "insane asylum" motif irritating and the layout just different enough to be a little disorienting. Say what we like, but LJ is easy to use.
I like this icon, too. I bring it out to punctuate comments as needed.
Thanks for dropping me a line,
Pesti

Date: 2008-03-20 07:32 pm (UTC)I think to each their own. If you want to strike go for it if you don't no biggie right?
They're going to do as they damn well please so us not posting is only hurting ourseleves and each other since lots of times we come here to vent and get support from our friends.

Date: 2008-03-20 07:57 pm (UTC)I don't like peer-pressure stuff too. It feels like one of those damn chain letters. If I was gonna be home I might do a post-a-thon or something. if I cared enough.

Date: 2008-03-22 06:27 pm (UTC)but really, fun thing, like Civilization only IRL. but one can't be afraid of some physical contact in that game. when two groups run at each other (reminds me a lot of a Wall Of Death at a metal concert) I'd become panicky. respect to you for doing this.
