Baby had her anatomy ultrasound today. That's a very detailed, hi-res scan.  The doctor was able to measure all her organs and stuff, as well as see that yes, my grandfather was right. "it" is indeed a girl.:)

There were two things the doctor pointed out that could be an issue. Both are in the 1% likelyhood of pointing to some chromosome damage range, so we're at a 2% risk, he guesses.  Our only other option is to have the amnio test to see what that shows, but neither of the possible problems are fixable, so we're not gonna get the amnio done since it has a chance of causing complications.  So happy thoughts are appreciated.  We're crossing our fingers and hoping for the best.

i'm glad baby girl has "all her organs and stuff." that's great. sonography was much more primitive when i had it done with my babies. (i turned down amnio, btw, which they suggested because of my age when i was carrying son #2. he was fine, after all.)

my sister was in that range and 10 months ago she gave birth to a wonderfully healthy baby boy--he is awesome and now he is in the 95% of development--tall and smart :)

2% seems very low and I have a friend that was told that her son would have spina bifida. They opted to have the baby as it had taken them years to get pregnant, guess what? That baby was 100% perfect so I don't always believe in the percentages of risks.

I think she'll be just fine, sounds like all you need to do is listen to our grandfather.

I'd say no to the amnio test, too. I was over 30 when I was carrying my last two, and they were born just fine.

Eh, I was given the same kind of info - I dont remember if it was 2 or 4 percent - and I went and had the amnio (which actually wasn't bad at all). Pfft, everything was perfectly fine.

So I think your attitude is great, it is what it is, and no sense worrying about what 'could', 'maybe', 'possibly' be a risk. Just enjoy your pregnancy :-)

2%? sounds like great odds to me. Back when I was born, the doctor was 50% sure I'd be retarded in some way, luckily it was just my personality :)
I think they have to tell you those percentages because there could always be something wrong, but you don't smoke or do drugs, so I'm 100% sure that little girl will be just fine. You've got sturdy genes so she'll be fine. She's gonna be the luckiest little girl to have you as a mommy (and me as Aunt Jenn?) :D
