My husband got a phone call from his mother's phone yesterday, and when he answered it, there was a police officer on the line, telling him his mother had been found dead in her house. It appeared she'd been exercising and walked into her bedroom and died.
We packed up some clothes and Sami (she's 3 now) and drove the 2 hrs out to Hawkins.
My poor husband was devastated. Such a horrible shock.
We got there and her brother let us into the house, and we've been working ever since, trying to get her affairs in order. The funeral is going to be next Saturday.
The biggest project is trying to get the house in some sort of shape. This is probably going to be our weekend project for the forseeable future.
I'm grateful for 3 things, where the house is concerned:
1)that she had no pets
2)that she had a maid, so there is no filth, only clutter
3)that we're randomly finding absolutely awesome stuff, which is a good motivator to keep going.
I'm also very grateful that my husband has the right sense of humor that we can laugh at some of the madness we're finding. It's seriously like an episode of Hoarders.
Sami is being the best we could expect from a child her age. JoBeth had direct TV so she can watch her shows, and we've found crayons so Sami can color.
