Why Janelly is not allowed to name the dishes that she creates:
So.. Last night, I got some of those big baking bags and grabbed random-ish veggies from the store, and some chicken, and came home and grabbed some more stuff from the cabinet and decided to make a meal.
Started with a can of tomato, added a jar of marinaded artichoke hearts. two teaspoons chopped sauteed garlic. A container of mushrooms, a red bell pepper, cut into half-inch squares, two heads of broccoli, cut up, 8 green onions, cut up, 4 chicken breasts, cubed.
So I dump it in the bag and kind of shake it up and roll it around to make sure the stuff mixes.
The tomato turns the bag red, and I look down and say, for no reason other than to freak Kendra out,
"Looks like I killed a hooker in here."
The recipe is now (and probably forever) referred to as dead hooker. As in: Hey babe, you want left over stir-fry or dead hooker for lunch?
But god it's tasty.

Date: 2007-08-02 05:23 pm (UTC)I think it'd work great with potato. My husband's doing the low carb thing, and I'm totally not letting him live off of meat, so I'm finding all the low-carb veggies for him.

Date: 2007-08-02 08:03 pm (UTC)It works pretty well with and in potato-like dishes, like potato soup and mashed potatoes. I usually switch out half the potatoes in recipes for cauliflower anyways because I like the taste, but it usually turns out tasty, texture and flavor-wise.
(This message was brought to you by the American Cauliflower Lobby. Sorry, I just got on a roll.) And I would love some Dead Hooker!

Date: 2007-08-03 01:56 pm (UTC)Also, good girl... low carb is exactly that and NOT high protein. Leafy, green vegis should be the *first* choice in food of any weightloss program and in low carb dieting it's leafy vegis, meat, nuts, dairy, fruits, root vegis and grains waaaaaay at the back of the pack.
Is he doing Atkins, South Beach or Protein Power?
BYW here's my low-carb "cookie" recipie
-cover a cookie sheet (any flat surface will do) with waxed paper
-make silver sollar sized flatish piles of slivered almonds
-drizzle just enough magic shell (I've only used the chocolate fudge flavor) to stick most of the almonds together
-stick tray in the freezer for a few minuets
TADA, protein laden *crunchy* things (low carb is terribly low on crunch factor) with a hint of sweet and chocolate (or your magic shell flavor of choice)
This worked really well for me because I can make one or two at a time so there isn't any temptation to eat "just one more".

I'm eating better than I have in a long while, but I"m not stressing at all when I walk to the corner store for an icecream sandwich. :)
