Amtgard Today

Played Scout in the battle game. Healed people. Scout-entangled people. I had crappy backup (besides Rath) and died to back-stabs a lot.

Played in a ditch for the first time in a year (Yay PE class). It was a good thing I had Kendra there helping me run PR because yeah.

I have no idea why nobody got mad at me. I nut-shotted this one guy like 3 times with the pole (I did tell him the first time that when he came at me swinging wild with a big heavy sword that it made me frightened and I tend to lose control when I'm afraid. Delicate flower that I am.)

I tried to remeber to smile as I stabbed people in the nuts. I'd be mid-fight and remember. Maybe they thought they were having fun.

I shot Ryan (Xaver) in the nuts at the picnic table for hunching Thordor and he pushed me on the ground (Okay it was more like I fell while kicking him in the nuts) and he nearly got mobbed by the horde of newbies. Thordor and Zandros and Kendra dog-piled him.

I am having fun.

I think maybe I'm a bully.

It's unfortunate for the others that my first emotion that seems to have come back online is the joy in slaughtering the opposition.

I figure anybody who comes at you with a big sword is asking for it. And they kept coming back, right? They knew what they were in for!

Dude. I told him he was scary and it wasn't in his best interest. (his lack of control was very worrying, and he hit Kendra hard enough that she's still feeling it).

Eventually they left the field, one by one, so I guess they stopped coming back.

Heh. I'd be all agressive with my grrr face on and fighting some guy and then I'd remember you saying that smiling makes them think they're having fun. So I'd smile halfway through the fight. I don't think it was reassuring. :)

And then these two guys came up florentine on me and I looked at them and apologized for what I was about to do. One ran away. One got stabbed in the nuts.

I stabbed one guy in the nuts and then sat on his shield on his chest. That was comfy.

I said I was sorry, does that help? (Thordor announcing "No you're not" everytime sure didn't).

I was sooo the worst of our members today.

Duuuude. It's been so long since I've felt physically good enough to go out and slay with something other than a bow. It was an awesome day.

I'm feeling better emotionally. Food and I still aren't friends. That Saturday, I walked 2 hrs putting up fliers for a friend's run for public office, and then 4 hrs at Amtgard and ate less than 1300 calories (the big soda got it up that high).

Oh no, I don't think you're an idiot. It's this obscure little game--like around 1000 people in Texas, at most. It's nation-wide, but more popular in the south where mandatory armor (like in SCA) is too hot.

It started out as a live-action role-playing game with a fantasy theme, but for me and a lot of other people it's more like a light-contact sport. All the weapons are padded (padded is a relative term). Armor is optional (it adds to the number of times you can be hit before you're "dead").

www.amtgard-eh.com is my local group here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. It's a lot of fun. It's like my whole point to exercizing in the gym.

I don't have anything like that where I live - unless you count the speedy dodging of drunk teenagers that you have to do if you venture into the centre of the city on a Saturday night like I did yesterday. If only I had padding and weapons!

There might be one near you. Assuming you're in the US, which I dunno if you are...anyways, if you can find it, and the park near you is decent, it's a hell of a lot of fun. I got all beat up last weekend (there are a ton of new people at this park. New=clumsy). I came home with a bruise on my knee, one on my ribs and one on my forearm. I'd still say it was a ton of fun.

That's awesome! I've only played once in the past forever. Having a baby makes being an Archer Bitch a lot more difficult, time-wise, and at 41, my knees are not so fond of the ditching.
