They’re easy to hate, these North American boys who came to Russia and stole away some of the best players of a generation. If Alex’s own family had been less financially secure or his mother less stubborn, he himself could have ended up lapdog to some Canadian. He hates Sidney Crosby the most, the shining Star who stood on Russian shoulders to rise so high.

I need someone who's been following the Gentlest Chains series to read what I'm working on and tell me if some stuff is coming at a natural pace or if I'm pushing more than I think I am? One of those where I've re-written and re-read it so long I don't even know what I'm looking at.

Not really a beta-reader, just a plot-coach? Cheer-leader with veto power?
ladyjanelly: (archer bitch)
We did a major event last weekend.
I'm the archer-bitch in the cowboy hat. I'm seriously not quite that chubby right now--I was wearing a padded tunic, chain maille armor and a gwazi over that. Laaaayers.

No lie, the hardest thing about writing hockey-fic is that I'm writing Canadians and Russians, and I can't make it feel natural to get their shoes off at the right points in time.

I'm totally hand-waving shoe removal because it's too awkward for words.

Is it a Texas thing? A Southern thing or a US thing? Or just me? Because seriously, I would never have my shoes off in someone else's house without being asked to take them off, unless it was like family or very close friends. It would feel horribly rude. Nobody wants to see my socks. It would feel super-overly familiar. I don't even take my shoes off in my own house until there's a reason to-- until I'm changing into pajamas or curling up on the couch or something.

I went to the doctor for a boob issue and taught her something she had never realized.

I was going through the list of possible reasons my breasts could be swollen, and one of them was "I haven't been around any crying newborns lately" and she boggled at that, like "What? What would that have to do with it?" and I told the story about my room-mate whose body was TOTALLY PREPARED to feed Sami when we first brought her home.

And then my doctor stopped, and blinked, and said "I was around a baby yesterday. And I thought my breasts felt heavier this morning."

So yeah. Boobs are amazing. But also frustrating when they do weird stuff and we don't know why. I'm cutting my caffeine consumption and watching a week to see if it's a hormonal issue.

Stars/Caps game tonight! Under $12. I'm taking a four-year old. Anybody want to go with us??

I'm thinking about taking small-child to see the Dallas Stars practice on Wednesday. Has anybody else gone to an NHL practice? Any advice?

Taylor's journey, her choices, her life as Sidney Crosby's little sister.

Note: This series is more of a collection of random moments than a WIP. The first piece has the beginning and the end, and these are just glimpses within that timeline (and sometimes outside of it). Most of these short stories work fine if you've only read the first one.

Wow. I wrote just under 2000 words today, which is like more than double my usual "Good day."

I think I finished up the "Little Sister" story in the Gentlest Chains series. Anybody interested in beta-reading 3000 words of Taylor Crosby's POV for me? I just need to give it a last read-through but I think I'm happy.

I have not one, not two, but three different Sid/Geno fics open in Scrivener right now, all at 12,000+ words, all incomplete but being worked on steadily (one is the Gentlest Chains which is mostly-posted). If only I could pick a fic and work through the outline, I'd get a hell of a lot more finished.

I'm finally making progress on the bodyguard fic (my beta-readers will know which I mean). Major overhaul/edits, and I need to work on an OC's motivations, but glad to be moving on it again.

An NHL player talking about getting some of the guys together and playing Amtgard in Ottawa. I just. Want to jump in, except that I have no idea what the Amt-culture is like up there (down here we'd gear them up in a heart-beat). And also, my twitter handle is ladyjanelly and that brings up Sid/Geno fic on any google search.

But. This totally churns up those Sword-knight!Sid plot-bunnies again.

It's like Christmas in....what month is it? September?

Sidura wrote in my Today's Tom Sawyer 'verse: http://sidura.livejournal.com/63807.html  Like 8000 words. Very awesome.

Also, Rhea at AO3 made a podfic of Field of Stone: http://archiveofourown.org/works/958171  Is it conceited to say I cried at parts of my own fic? It was just so different, hearing it read, that it hit me like a new thing.

Go! Enjoy these works! They're amazing!

So I was reading this article about the nature of fanfic: http://bookshop.tumblr.com/post/37075331312

 I want to explicitly say:

Feel free to make fair use of my fic.

No seriously.

Don't plagiarize me (aka don't take my words and claim them as your own, change character names, etc).

But if you want to podfic? Go for it.

Want to make art? Always awesome.

Want to write in AUs I have built? Sure!

Want to translate a fic I wrote into another language? Sweet!

Any other fair use/transformative work that I'm not thinking of right now?? I'll add it to this list.

I would love a link-back, and I would love to know it's out there so I don't miss the pleasure of partaking in something so delightful and flattering.

Not sure? I'd love to talk about it, in comments or private messages--up to you.

ETA: If you need to change a wording or something to make a podfic easier to say, feel free. I'm always happy to answer questions about pronunciation too.

Feedback please:

This is the first 2600 words of Nathalie/Jaromir, part of the Gentlest Chains bonding verse. It's attraction/affection with background Nathalie/Mario. No infidelity. Ends at a pretty good chapter break.

I haven't written or really read het that felt right in forever, but I think this feels right, so maybe it feels wrong to the rest of the world? I would really love someone else's opinion.

A scout sends him a file with a photograph in it, Crosby and Malkin out on the ice, wearing SSM maroon and black sweaters. They’re hugging in what must be a goal celebration, cheeks flushed and eyes bright. So damn young. What a waste.

I'm writing het. Well, actually poly M/F/M where the guys are close but not sexual/romantic with each other? It's going surprisingly well.

It starts with an established relationship with the first guy and the girl, and then the girl and second guy get together within the story.

I had planned for the attraction to grow gradually, for him to have this big "OMG I love my friend's gf" moment. But no. He's having it 10 minutes into his acquaintance with her.

Honestly it's a relief that it feels that natural, as opposed to them flopping around lukewarm and bland.

In other news (okay, the same news, really), Mullets. Oh, 1991, what were you thinking?

Is anyone going to WorldCon in San Antonio this weekend? Anyone?

I should know better than to try to read a fic with numbers-based OCD.

I had to stop watching the TV show Monk when he chose 10 once. 8 or 9 are clearly superior. 10 is MADE OF FIVES. *shudder* Eww.

This fic had a character built on 4s and 8s, but then chose 14 instead of 16 and I couldn't deal with it.

I'm just glad that I"m not buying all my groceries in pairs anymore.
