I think my battle with PPD is getting better. I'm crying a lot less these days. I still feel like I have to fight for what I need on a daily basis. Like I plan for what I need/want to do with my day and then struggle from morning til night to get it done. Sometimes it drives me fucking nuts that I can't say "Wow I stink; I'm gonna take a shower now." I feel like I have to ask for permission or help to get such basic things done and it makes me crazy.
But anyway. Crying less is definitely good.
Also, back around Christmas time, people would ask me what I wanted and my best answer was "For you to stop asking what I want." Just. Nothing I could have gotten would have made me happier.
I think it's a good sign that I'm wanting things again.
I want:
A new mattress. Seriously. I'm remembering the bed with the springs poking me that made me dream I was sleeping in a cage with fondness. This sleep number thing sucks so much I'd sleep on the couch if it wasn't so cold out there.
Some way to watch movies at the gym. Like a little I-Pod or Zoone? or whatever it is that lets me watch movies on a 2" screen and the software to get the movies on it.
A new laptop. Alas. The Toshiba has worked hard for me, but the battery life is short and sometimes it won't shut itself off when the lid is closed and it overheats like a mother.
A non-non-stick set of pots and pans. Because Teflon is stressing my husband out, and the heavier metal bottoms make it easier to cook.
Bread-making stuff. Like a roll-out kneading board and fancy grains and cook books. No machines or kits.
An under-counter spice rack. Because I can't give up any more counter space but NEED to see what spices I have. Also so I'll have empty bottles for custom mixes.

Date: 2010-01-13 06:05 pm (UTC)If it helps my mother sent your package yesterday. Also just bread cookbooks? or would any others be of interest. I'm pretty sure we have some of each, but I'd have to ask what she will part with. (Both mother and gram collected cookbooks).
As to a mattress, have you tried pricing at The Dump? They are open really weird hours, but they have seriously good prices.
Depending on your budget, might I suggest an Asus for a new laptop. My Toshiba died an honorable death after 5yrs (it also would overheat, wouldn't run more then 10min). But I was able to get an Asus over at Best Buy. They tend toward high memory amounts, good graphics cards and processors and most importantly good reviews.

Date: 2010-01-13 06:22 pm (UTC)I haven't tried The Dump yet. Hubby is wanting like a european mattress or something. I dunno. I'm ready to sleep on the damn floor.
Hubby got an Asus for christmas, and I think that's what I'd want. It's got a super-long battery life, runs cold and they've got the best record for low instances of parts failure out there. And they're cheap (ish).
I've got a lot of other cookbooks but nothing bread yet. I don't want to take something she wants to keep, but if you're getting rid of them or something I'd be happy to give one or two a good home. :)

Date: 2010-01-13 06:10 pm (UTC)Kudos deciding to go Teflon free. I recommend Revere Ware. Mom has pots and pans that are in regular service after at least 40 years and I'm really enjoying my set. Before I learned to cook I burned things I didn't think would come off but SOS pads made them shine like new every time.

Date: 2010-01-13 06:24 pm (UTC)I'm slowly picking up a set of pans. Like one or two a month. I've got a big pot and a HUGE pot and now a teeny pot. I think I'll look for a skillet next.

Date: 2010-01-13 06:45 pm (UTC)For skillets, I have three cast iron and three steel, in different sizes. Cast iron is awesome for sauteing/frying, and once it is seasoned it is better than teflon for quick clean ups. Steel is for sauces and things that "deglaze" the pan. I have one cast iron pan that is just for eggs, frenchtoast, pancakes, that sort of thing and it is PERFECTLY nonstick. My other skillets also don't stick, but are a little more roughly treated. In steel I have a small skillet, saucier, and a highedged thing. Once you get rid of all teflon you will be so glad!
i wonder if you have a dutch oven yet? I have a 7 quart le creuset dutch oven -- it was expensive but SO WORTH IT.

Date: 2010-01-13 06:51 pm (UTC)I suck at keeping cast iron nice. Or at least I did 15 years ago. Maybe I should give it another try...

Most recently though we had leftover soup in the dutch oven: leftover beef stew (from the crock pot); chicken broth from the freezer; leftover sausage hash -- plus some celery, a potato, two carrots, and a can of chick peas. IT WAS SO GOOD. :)
